This grand processional in 19th Century manner befits the text. In the synagogue ritual, this march occurs at the end of the Torah service (on weekday festivals), as the scrolls of the Torah are processed a final time through the congregation before being replaced in the Holy Ark. The music incorporates a High Holy Day chant fragment as the secondary theme, as well as that season's traditional "Amen" - a descending minor tiad - in the organ intro, and then outlined by the basses in the concluding measures. The general mood and effect of awe and majesty are also reflective of those observances.
Nonetheless, this work will be useful for any
religious occasion calling for a grand processional, or for these
well-known verses. The score features repetition options to be used as logistically necessary.
